DECORATING
The key to quality decoration is preparation. Surfaces will be sanded and filled where necessary before paint is applied. We clean all woodwork with sugar soap to remove all residues that prohibit good paint adhesion and then rinse and dry the surface prior to painting.
All floors and carpets are protected with dust sheets (additional plastic sheets are used under dust sheets on carpet) Where items of furniture have been left in the room they are protected with dust sheets.

MaterialsUsing quality materials is critical to providing a lasting quality finish. We prefer to supply materials particularly for woodwork though we are happy to use materials supplied by our clients. We would highly recommend Brewers (branches throughout Sussex) for decorating supplies both for the quality of products and excellent advice on offer. |
Colour schemes
Choosing a colour scheme for a room is often a daunting prospect. We are happy to provide advice on colour schemes. The tips below should help in the process.
- Colours will change with the light
When choosing a colour, it will look darker in a large area than it does on a colour chart. Light has a significant effect on colour, so try your tester in different parts of a room.
- Use colour testers
We actively encourage the use of testers. Don't be afraid to use as many testers as necessary, many of our client's use 6 or more testers till the right colour is found. We carry some testers, which we are happy to apply to aid your colour choice.
Apply the colour testers to pieces of white card; you can then move the piece of card around the room to see how the colour will look in different lighting conditions as well as matching it against furnishings.
- Trust your instincts
If a friend turns their nose up at a colour scheme you have chosen, remember it is you that will be living with the scheme. If you like it is a good colour scheme!!!
- Colours for resale purposes
If you are picking a colour scheme to aid the resale value of your house, estate agents will always recommend neutral colours. Though magnolia may have a cheesey 70"s image, it is surprising how it sells houses.
- Magazines
These are a very good source for picking colour schemes.
