If the correct materials are used it is possible to achieve a professional finish quite easily. The doors were primed with Zinser Primer which provides an ideal base for an acrylic eggshell topcoat. (2 coats) This provides an extremely hard wearing and washable finish and also an unlimited choice of colours. It is far more flexible than the melamine painting systems available in DIY stores. New stainless steel T-bar handles were also fitted to give the units a modern fresh feel.

To complete the look the worktops were replaced, the room was re-decorated, the wall tiles were replaced and a new stainless steel hob and oven were installed.
One of the biggest advantages of this approach is that the doors can be painted in situ and all the contents of the units can be left in place.
