KITCHEN MAKEOVERS

Location - Hailsham

This kitchen makeover was completed with new worktops, wall tiling, floor tiling and a sink. The completed photos do not fully reflect the effect of the makeover as the client redecorated the room using natural colours after the photos were taken.

Location - Polegate

The brief here was to give an old kitchen a new lease of life without the inconvenience of a complete refit. It was satisfying to take a kitchen that was 15 years old and in need of some minor repairs and come up with a modern looking design at relatively minimal cost.

Many of the units had to have minor repairs but were still serviceable. The big advantage was that the doors were of an suitable design to be painted. If the correct materials are used it is possible to achieve a professional finish quite easily. The doors were primed with Zinser Primer which provides an ideal base for an acrylic eggshell topcoat. (2 coats) This provides an extremely hard wearing and washable finish and also an unlimited choice of colours. It is far more flexible than the melamine painting systems available in DIY stores. New stainless stell T-bar handles were also fitted to give the units a modern fresh feel.

DIY TIP- If you want to try this yourself Brewers Decorating Supplies in Eastbourne (opposite Tescos in Birch Road or 123-127 Ashford Road) will be able to supply all the correct rollers , brushes and paints along with advice on how to achieve the best results.

To complete the look the worktops were replaced, the room was re-decorated, the wall tiles were replaced and an new stainless steel hob and oven were installed.

One of the biggest advantages of this approach is that the doors can be painted in situ and all the contents of the units can be left in place.
